Venado Grande Contest Categories

Note: Changes and additions to categories can be made at the discretion of the judges of the Venado Grande Contest. The same buck may not win in multiple categories, with the exception of the combined score categories. Please see the official rules for more details.

  • Best Overall Buck:
    The highest scoring buck in the contest. Please note – bucks taken on high-fenced ranches are not eligible for this category. They are only eligible for the Best AntlerMax-fed Buck and the new Best High-Fence Buck category.
  • Best AntlerMax Buck:
    The highest scoring buck harvested on a ranch where Purina AntlerMax protein is fed.
  • Best Archery Buck:
    The highest scoring buck harvested with a bow.
  • Best Bell County Buck:
    The highest scoring buck killed in Bell County.
  • Best Local Area Buck:
    The highest scoring buck killed in one of the seven counties surrounding Bell County: Falls, McLennan, Coryell, Lampasas, Burnet, Williamson and Milam
  • Best Youth Buck:
    The best buck killed by a hunter age 15 years or younger as of the date of harvest.
  • Best Buck by a Female Hunter:
    The best buck killed by female hunter.
  • Best Bell County Archery Buck:
    The highest scoring buck harvested with a bow in Bell County.
  • Mr. Heavy Horns:
    The buck that has the highest amount of inches in horn circumference (mass).
  • Mr. Long Beams:
    The buck that has the highest amount of inches in the length of the main beams.
  • Most Points:
    The buck with the greatest amount of scored points.
  • Widest Inside Spread:
    The buck that has the highest inches scored for the inside spread.
  • Longest Point:
    The buck that has the most inches in length on a single point.
  • Youngest Hunter:
    The youngest hunter that submitted a deer for scoring in the contest.
  • Biggest 8-Point:
    The highest scoring 8-point deer scored in the competition.
  • Freakiest Buck:
    The buck with the “freakiest” horns in the competition. This is up to the discretion of the judging committee.
  • Biggest Spike:
    The highest scoring spike submitted in the competition.
  • Combined Category: Husband/Wife Category:
    The best combined score for bucks submitted by a husband and wife.
  • Combined Category: Parent/Child Category:
    The best combined score for bucks submitted by a parent and child.
  • Best High-Fence Buck:
    The best buck killed on a high-fence ranch. Please note that high-fence bucks are only eligible for this category and the AntlerMax category.
  • Best Whitetail Video – Co-Sponsored by Gottcha Feeders:
    Have a video of your harvested buck, your dream buck, or of a great hunt? Then this new category is for you! Bring a copy of the video by one of the stores. You can also upload it to YouTube or another website and email the link to lindsey@beltonfeed.com. Videos will be judged anonymously by the judging committee.
